A-J & Eliza

We are focused on art writing, sharing art and connecting with others and creating conversation, as well as sharing artists and their art. We do this through independent exhibition reviews, chatting with artists in their studio with the series ‘Studio Chats’ and running [synonym] session writing events that facilitate writing within exhibition spaces.

Gallery Bagging’s aim is to make art writing fun, accessible and collaborative and will not only share artists, and their work but be a a fun way to ‘bag’ as many galleries as possible, harking back to our Scottish roots referencing ‘Munro bagging’. We hope to share what is happening around Scotland and showcase its many great talents and vibrant art spaces.

More about ELIZA

If I’m not on long walks or up hills, I am reading, writing and visiting galleries. Generally, I am focused on the body in relation to our environment as I find myself immersed in walking method as contemporary art practise. Having just completed my Master’s in Curatorial Practise (Contemporary Art) at the Glasgow School of Art, focusing on disability and inclusion in curation and environmental studies, I hope to continue this work through my writing. More about A-J

A-J Reynolds is a Falkirk-based interdisciplinary artist and writer who engages with pre-existing artwork, drawing from the material and contextual language to form creative work. Using visual and verbal methods and art responsive methodologies, creativity is composed in different formats and structures such as traditional text and hand-drawn maps.

Background in artwriting achieved various methods and methodologies acting as tangible access points to, with, between, from artworks. Researching the myriad of form and fields Reynolds has obtained a large threshold of writing modes and styles. These literary mediums are shared throughout accessible writing workshops enabling the writers to see different ways in which to interact creatively with artwork.

Gallery Bagging supports PACBI and the movement for a Free Palestine.

The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) was initiated in 2004 to contribute to the struggle for Palestinian freedom, justice and equality. To find out more about this head to https://bdsmovement.net/pacbi/cultural-boycott-guidelines

We stand in solidarity with Palestine and call for a permanent Cease Fire!

We believe in sharing resources that educate and provide information on action that can be taken by all in support of the Palestinian people. Art Workers for Palestine Scotland have been creating free documents to raise this awareness. This work by Art Worker for Palestine Scotland has been invaluable, we have linked the compiled list of Humanitarian Aid, Art and Artists about and in Palestine, and further ways to support Palestine through templates to email you local MP and organisations with and free ebooks to read on the occupation: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s_O9cVLonts4Yb6VSYbSoDVuEoytAofmTcAaz9GKoTQ/edit

Highlighting ‘The Mosaic Rooms’ which is a leading non-profit arts organisation and bookshop dedicated to supporting and promoting contemporary culture from the Arab world and beyond in London. ‘Established in 2009, as a project of the A.M Qattan Foundation, we have dedicated our work to championing creative and critical voices that are often underrepresented.’ The Mosaic Rooms have compiled more reading resources: https://mosaicrooms.org/palestine-reading-resources/

Book recommendations from us that have supported our learning and resources of Palestinian authors:

  • Minor Detail, (Adania Shibli, 2020)
  • The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine: A History of Settler Colonial Conquest and Resistance, (Rashid Khalidi, 2020)
  • Freedom is a Constant Struggle: Ferguson, Palestine and the Foundations of A Movement (Angela Davis, 2016)
  • On Palestine (Noam Chomsky and IIan Pappe, 2015)

We will continue to attend demonstrations, share events that are happening in aid of Palestine, amplify voices that are speaking up on the atrocities being inflicted on the people of Palestine, whilst condemning the systemic violation of human rights which normalises dangerous rhetoric which has led to the rise in violence being directed toward Palestinian, Muslim and Jewish people.
